At Holmer Green Senior School, we are committed to ensuring that every student can thrive, become the best possible version of themselves and access all aspects of school life. Our Learning Support Department and Additionally Resourced Provision (ARP) are led by Mrs Sarah Wilson, SENDCo, who is supported by Ms Sangha (Deputy SENDCo), a Speech and Language Therapist, a specialist SEND teacher, and a dedicated team of highly skilled Learning Support Assistants (LSAs).  Our role is to support students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in accessing the mainstream curriculum while promoting independence, confidence, and success. We provide a range of tailored interventions, including literacy, numeracy, speech and language support, pastoral guidance, and examination access arrangements.

Students are supported through a combination of classroom assistance, targeted interventions, and personalised pastoral care. SEND students are allocated a key worker who acts as the main point of contact for both the student and their family, ensuring that support is coordinated and effective.

The ARP provides specialist support for students with language and communication needs through a combination of in-class support, speech and language therapy, small-group teaching, mentoring, coaching, and pastoral wellbeing provision to help them succeed both academically and socially.

We offer a broad range of support tailored to individual needs, including social communication groups, literacy and numeracy interventions, homework and coursework support, exam access arrangements, adapted materials for visually impaired students, dedicated break and lunchtime provision, Regulation and Study Room facilities, and both small-group and individual support sessions.  Students' progress is regularly monitored through a range of assessments, teacher feedback, parental input, and, where appropriate, advice from external specialists.

Parents of students with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) are invited to annual review meetings, while students receiving SEND Support benefit from regular reviews and target-setting discussions throughout the year.

We work closely with primary schools to ensure a smooth transition into Year 7. Information gathering begins during the summer term prior to entry, enabling us to understand each student's needs and put appropriate support in place from the outset. Students joining the ARP are also offered an additional transition day to help them settle confidently into secondary school life.

Applications for places within the ARP are managed through Buckinghamshire Council as part of the annual review process. Families interested in applying should indicate HGSS ARP as a preferred placement on their application. Our SEND team is often involved in Year 5 and Year 6 review meetings to help families make informed decisions about future school placements.
